Future Farming Conference Guest Speaker

Addressing the challenge in future farming of increasing electricity and operating costs is made simpler with this innovative floating solar photovoltaic (PV) system.

The Solar PV Island generates clean renewable energy and offsets electricity, while reducing water evaporation and algae growth.

Modular pontoons constructed from corrosion‐proof recyclable HDPE plastic support the solar PV panels that operate more efficiently due to the cooling effect of the water.

Geoff Fussell will review photovoltaic solar technologies and operational techniques to realise
the benefit of solar generation to reduce electricity consumption and operational costs.

The design utilises the space immediately above the irrigation dam adjacent to the high tech glasshouses.

Geoff will also detail various operational techniques to maximise the Solar PV system to reduce energy consumption and operational costs.

Floating Solar Island Benefits

  • Electricity production
  • Flexible, durable & cost effective
  • Environmental credentials
  • Space saving
  • Reduce water loss & evaporation
  • Reduce Algae
  • Reduce eutrophication (over enriched with nutrients)
